This website mainly consists of visitor submitted snow sledding hill locations. How did it come to be? Well, during early December of 2004, I (Steve King, Pevely, MO resident and webmaster of TossingGames.com, MoHorses.com, MissouriScenicRivers.com, MyChessie.com and MissouriMarketplace.net had turned to the internet to search for some more snow sledding hills around my area in Missouri for my son and I. Unfortunately to my dismay, there wasn't much information online regarding sled riding hill locations. All that I could really find were snow sledding tips (ie. types of sleds, waxing, etc.) and some Flexible Flyer sled collecting & care. So, what was I going to tell my son Christian? Hopefully not that we had to go to the same ol' Art Hill that we've been going to for years and years for sledding. We really wanted to try some new hills that were just as fun, if not better, to sled ride on. I knew that there had to be more sledding hills in the area, but finding them would be the tricky part, so it seemed. And if we did luck out and happen upon a sledding hill that did look promising, I knew that questions would have to be answered before we ventured down the slope. First and foremost, was the sledding hill on private property or public land? Either way, would permission be granted to go snow sledding there? PERMISSION WOULD BE A MUST! Next, were there any hazards on or at the bottom of the sledding hill that would cause injury or possibly even death? A simple Google search will show numerous sledding accidents. Therefore, it is VERY IMPORTANT to observe sledding safety; adults and children alike. As for that, it is my opinion that all young kids should be required to wear a safety helmet when sledding. The questions went on and on and on.
So, on a drive home from work one day, I started thinking that there were probably some individuals throughout the United States and Canada that have thought about my same dilema of wanting to locate some new sledding hills. Hence was born the concept for this website which I welcome you to. It can only grow with everyones input! So spread the word, then grab yourself a cup of pipin hot chocolate possibly from your hot chocolate maker and feel free to browse the listings or submit any and all sledding hills (besides your backyard, travelled roadways and ski resorts of course), lesser known or popular for others to enjoy. Submissions will be quickly reviewed and scrutinized before posting. The main reasons why a sledding hill submittal would not be posted would be due to 1) permission not being granted (trespassing), 2) hazards on or at the bottom of the sledding hill or 3) not enough sufficient data submitted. in 2007, we've added a couple of early 1900's sledding photos to this main page. It shows that the love for sledding can span decades.
"The webmaster of SledRiding.com is in no way responsible for trespassing (due to false information) and/or injury or death of any person or persons on any hills listed on this website. Go sledding at your own risk."
