Directions: Sledding hill at Memorial Park in B.I. Located on the South side of 127th Street (a.k.a. Burr Oak Ave.) about 1/2 mile west of Western Ave.

Comments: This hill even has a built in toboggan slide for those who want to go really fast. Very nice but the ground that meets up with the bottom of the toboggan slide has a real bad dip/bump and trust me, it hurts when sled meets ground. Just going down the hill (not the toboggan slide) is awesome. Especially for kids.

2009 UPDATE: About 30 parking spots in the lot, but people were constantly coming and going and lot was never full. Was not crowded on a weekend after a large snowfall. This hill is better for smaller kids as it's not too steep. Almost all kids there were under 10. That's probably why there weren't crowds, because little kids get bored, tired and cold more quickly. People who want more thrills go to Jensen Slides Area (also listed on this site) which is just down the road from Indian Woods.

Comments: Hill used to have a Ski Rope Tow. Village got antsy and started to block (and salt) the big part of the hill. I don't know what condition they are allowing today. Very big, steep and challenging, even for adults. There is a smaller side for kids. Don't reccomend going down staris or other (off-trails).

Directions: Lighted sledding hill at the new Swallow Cliff sledding hill located along Route 83, west of La Grange Road in unincorporated Palos Township.

Comments: Since the 1930s, Swallow Cliff had been home to the famous toboggan slides, which were demolished in May 2008 due to financial constraints for necessary repairs. The toboggan slides had been closed since 2004. After renovating the hill through the spring, summer and fall seasons, the Cook County Forest Preserve unveiled the new sledding hill in time for the first snowfall of 2008. The hill is at the same location as the former toboggan slides. Once all of the concrete from the slides was removed, the hill was planted with grass seed and graded to be nearly identical to the toboggan slides. People like the height and people like the grade. While the sledding hill’s highest point is only about two thirds the way up the hill, Mayberry said it still has some good height and that sledders can still build up decent speed. The sledding hill is open until 10 p.m. daily. Unlike the former toboggan slides, there is no official amount of snow or temperature required to open the sledding hill. Details about this hill was found while reading this sled hill topic here.

Directions: Greenfield High School Football Field, near the center of town, from the highway, one wants to turn to the east on Mulberry street. Past the first stop sign which is the junction of East and Mulberry streets. Then forward to the end of the block. Turn left just past the gymnasium. From there one can see the sign above the gates with the football field's name on it. The beginning of the sled riding hill overlooks the football field.

Comments: When parking in the lot at the top of the hill, one can easily walk along the ridge toward the south from the steps that lead to the football field. So, if one chooses, they may walk up the hill after sledding down it or also walk over to the steps (roughly 8 terraces) to the top. The sled riding hill is fast enough to maintain adequate control and yet thrill a person. The only objects in the way would be a goal post, flag pole, and fence. All if these are not a problem as they are at the maximum distance a sled continues to travel and one approaches them usually while grinding to a halt. The sledding hill itself is for the most part smooth. There are no major bumps. Should one feel the need for more of an adrenaline rush, they can challenge the terraces that lead down directly to the football field.

Comments: There is parking at the top of the hill in the Nelson Park Pool Parking lot. Its very wide and curves around to an even steeper section on the east/south side of the pool, but there is road not far from the bottom of the hill. The main open area of the hill is free from obstruction, but there are sections that have trees. Fun if you can steer a sled or a snowboard. Sometimes depending on snow amount and temperatur, the hill can get muddy and water can pool at the bottom.

Directions: Fon-du-lac Park District Property. (See comments below for detailed directions.)

Comments: This hill is actually two hills in one. When traveling up springfield road from the bottom of the hill (by Pizza Hut), the first turnoff to your left leads into the old Fondulac swimming pool area. There are now some tennis courts and playground equip. there. Upon entering the parking lot look to your right and a rather steep hillside will be on your right with no hazards or obstacles. I think this is a designated sledding area because the park district always mows a thick strip of the long prarie grass down the hill. The only reason that I can think of them doing that is to sled.

The other hill is a bit more dangerous. Once again when heading up Springfield road hill (starting at Pizza Hut) take your second right. This heads into a picnic pavillion area. Just behind this pavillion area is a monsterous hill length over 1000 feet. This second hill is very hazardous there are trees scattered down the hill. There is also a concrete walking path that starts at the pavillion and snakes down the full length of the hill. The path also includes steps. At the bottom there is a road about 35 yards from the bottom of the slope. The road is not a busy road but still sees traffic. The only people that slide into it are the people crazy enough to start at the top of the hill or higher than the last place the walking path snakes across the hill. This hill is quite popular even for parents and little kids. Both offer lots of parking. On the second hill you can park at the bottom of the hill as well if you don't plan on sledding from the top.
