Directions: The sledding hill is in the back corner of Hyde Park. The park is located at 8th & Hyde Park Ave. Comments: At the bottom of the sledding hill there is a dip. There is usually enough room to stop after the dip, but if you continue sliding too fast, you could end up in the parking lot (where, of course, there is likely to be parked cars). |

Directions: The sledding hill is at William Jewell College. Comments: You can park at any of the numerous parking lots and walk up the hill or the easiest thing to do is park at the top of the hill. There are two trees at the bottom of the hill that can easily be steered away from and, by the time you get down there you're usually coming to a stop. The area is shaped like a bowl except for the bottom. The two sides are much more of a shallow grade but the middle is the steepest and best part! |

Directions: The sledding hill is at Bourbon City Park. Take I-44 to the Bourbon exit (#218). Turn south towards the mobil station (I think its pine street) and follow that road to old route 66 (approx a couple hundred yards. Turn right onto old route 66 (west) and the park is about a mile or two down (theres plenty of signs). Comments: Great sledding spot for kids, lots of different hills, some faster hills for bigger kids and adults. |

Directions: The sledding hill is at the Sullivan city lake. From St. Louis, take I-44 to EXIT 225, turn left and cross the over pass. Take the first right onto the south service road (its right in front of crackle barrel), go aprrox .05 miles turn left on hwy d (towards the hospital). Go approx .05 miles and make a right on SAPPINGTON BRIDGE RD (right in front of the hospital, make the next right hand turn past the hospital (I think its lake drive) you'll be able to see the lake at this point. The hill is on the back side, real easy to find.
Comments: Large hill (back side of the damn.) At the bottom it starts to level off and then goes into a wooded area so you'll want to drag your feet towards the bottom or you'll risk going into the woods. People usually build a ramp towards the bottom, ramp is not for the faint at heart, rarely are you able to stay on the sled after hitting it (but hey, its fun.) I'd probably leave this hill for older kids and adults. The hill is great for dare devils are somebody who likes to get speed. |

Directions: Sledding hill at Richards Gebaur Air Force base. If you are on 71hwy, take it to 155th st and head West. This will take you into the Air Force base. When you get to the light, it is to your southwest. I've heard it called Mad Dog Hill before but don't know if that is entirely accurate.
Comments: The sledding hill is long, and in certain spots has great natural ramps that will send you flying. |

Directions: Sledding hill at William Landahl Park Reserve. From I-70. Go North on 7 Hwy (Blue Springs) to Truman Rd (FF). East on Truman Rd for approx 2 miles. Gravel parking lot on right (south) side. On the North Side of the William Landahl Park. The Hill is right in front of you. Comments: We've been sledding this hill for years and love it. Might want to have a 4WD, the parking lot doesn't usually get cleared of snow. Smooth steep slope and fast. |

Directions: Sledding hill at Glendale Elementary School which is on Lee's Summit
Rd. Drive to the back of the school and park. The hill leads down to
the field. Comments: This is a good hill for children that are a little more frightened of sledding on larger hills but still steep enough for older kids to not be bored. |

Directions: Sledding hill located on east 104th
street right next to I-435. Comments: It is steep, and not too bumpy, and it also has a natural jump that is about 3 feet high. It is probably the least heard-about hill i have ever been to and isn't that crowded on snowy days. |

Directions: Sledding hill at Brookside Park. At 56th & Brookside is a popular sled riding hill called Suicide Hill. Pretty much, the park is the sledding hill. Tennis court on top, baseball diamond at the bottom. Comments: Best sledding hill in the Kansas City area. Ask anyone in Kansas City who grew up there about Suicide Hill and they will know where it is, and will probably have stories about it. Many inferior sleds met their end on that hill. A friend of mine used to gather up the discarded remains and repair them. I once watched a group of 5 girls on a very long tobaggon sled straight into the fire barrel at the bottom of the hill, screaming the whole way. Tobaggons don't steer and their combined weight carried them much farther than single or double sledders would go. Very fast hill, some parts can be bumpy. Different starting spots at the top give varying rides, from smooth and safe to daredevil and fast. It is always in use when a good snow comes. I've seen every kind of sled imaginable on that hill, from innertubes to car hoods. The hill doesn't look like much from the bottom, but from the top, it screams "Sled me!" |
|
Directions: This sledding hill is located on the left side of the Fox High School gym in the softball/baseball field. Fox High School is off of Jeffco Blvd. Comments: None Webmaster's Review: No hazards and a short but fairly steep grade with a long run out at the bottom. Overall, I would rate this sledding hill . |

Directions: Sledding hill at Crystal
City Public Park off of Park Drive. Go to where the basketball courts are right behind
the pond (if you drive past the public swimming pool, then you will see
them). Comments: There's plenty of parking. Start at the top of the hill by the courts. It's a steep slope and THERE IS A BIG BUMP AT THE BOTTOM. There's an old fountain at the end of this hill which is sometimes filled with a few inches of water/ice. This actually makes this hill perfect, but for those taking young kids please be careful. I'd definitely rate this hill FIVE STARS for ages 13 and up, and FOUR STARS for young kids due to the bump at the bottom. |

Directions: Take 40 west to weldon sprins 94 south exit. Go soouth on 94 for about 8 miles until you arrive in downtown defiance.
Look for the post office and the sledding hill is there. Comments: Only a few trees down the sledding hill but nothing threatening. Parking is at the top of the sledding hill. |

Directions: Sled riding hill at Blanchette Park's Bum Hollow (1900 W. Randloph St.) at the rear of the park. Comments: None Webmaster's Review: I must say, Art Hill was my preferred sledding hill in the St. Louis area, but this one takes the cake! We didn't even know it existed, since we aren't from the St. Charles area. Good thing that I started this website, eh! According to my son, this is the best place in the area to go sled riding so far. I couldn't agree with him more after today's ride on the hills. Yeah, I said "hills". This location not only has one sledding hill, but 3 of them. One about 30 degrees, one about 35 degrees and one about 40 degrees which all are like sides of a 3-sided bowl. The only hazard that I can see is that if there were multiple sledders going down each sledding hill at the same time, then they could possibly collide at the bottom of the bowl. To some, this could be fun, but to others, well, lets just play it safe and pay attention. Also, some thrill seekers attempt to ride out of the bowl on what could be called a 4th hill, but I WOULDN'T due to the fact that there are many trees in that location and people have been hurt there. I was leaning towards 3 ½ stars, but since my son liked it more than any of the other sledding hills that he's visited, I am going to rate this sled riding hill . Great variety, I will DEFINITELY be back!! |
|
Directions: The sledding hill is called McNair Hill and it is located at McNair Park off of Droste Road near Zumbehl Road. It is located next to baseball diamond #5. Comments: There is a pavilion at the top of the sledding hill for sledders to congregate. There are a couple telephone poles at the bottom of the hill that some people have hit on occasion and may have gotten hurt (You shouldn't hit them if your paying attention). Also, there is a baseball diamond at the bottom of about a third of the sledding hill on the left. Some people have gotten hurt running into the bleachers. So, please BEWARE of the hazards. At the bottom of the whole sledding hill is a little path of asphalt about 6 feet wide (not a street or anything cars could dirve on). If there's any amount of sledable snow, it will be covered and no scratched sleds. There is a public parking lot on top of the hill. For the handicapped people, there's also a parking lot at the bottom of the sledding hill (but out of the way of on-coming sledders). Webmaster's Review: Overall, I would rate this sled riding hill due to the hazards, length of hill and slope of the hill. |
|
Directions: Civic Park has a designated sledding hill at the back of the park near the pool. To get to Civic Park from I-70, take Exit 217 at Highways K/M. Drive north on Main Street for about ½ mile. After crossing the railroad tracks, make an immediate left onto Civic Park Drive. Civic Park is about 2 blocks down, on the right. Park in the area closest to the pool and walk the walking path to the sledding hill.
Comments: None Webmaster's Review: When I had seen this hill, I didn't go WOW. It was a simple sledding hill with a slight slope and a few trees around it. Therefore, overall, I would rate this sled riding hill . |
|
Directions: Art Hill at Forest Park Art Museum (#1 Fine Arts Dr.) Comments: Parking in Art Museum parking lot. Day and night sled riding. Sometimes a barrel with firewood is provided. There are hay bails at the end of the slope to keep sledders from going into the lake (not a problem). Webmaster's Review: Overall, I would rate this sled riding hill . It has the length and width of a great sledding hill, but is lacking a bit in the slope I think. If it were a bit steeper, then this definitely would surpass the Blanchette Park hill. |
|
Directions: Suicide Hill is located on Lagoon Drive, a quarter of a mile east of Skinker
Blvd., on the fairway of the public golf course in Forest Park, next to the Cascade Waterfall.
Comments: There are 2 edges of this sledding hill, one being about 25 degrees and the "suicide edge" being about 45 degrees. Since the golf course was re-graded in 2004, the sudden drop may have been tapered off on the "suicide edge" (Review to come). The hill is about 60 ft. tall. I spoke to an employee at the golf pro shop, who gave me an Ok to sled there. (there were kids already going down the hill today). Looking at the photo the hill may not seem too steep, but the "suicide" section is the steeper grade on the left side of the picture. Checking a topo map, the hill is 20 or 30 feet higher than Art Hill, and ends in a flat area. Webmaster's Review: When I happened upon this hill for the review, I instantly thought, now THAT's a sled riding hill! Being less than a ½ mile from Art hill (a brisk walk away), I thought this sledding hill to have speed written all over it. Yeah, it's not too wide, or even really long, but the slope was all that mattered to me. The location being so so close to Art hill was a plus too, since if one got tired of Art Hill, and wanted some speed, then they could hop right on over to "Suicide Hill", which is right down the road. Therefore, overall I would rate this sled riding hill .

Directions: Sledding hill at Mathilda Park. The park is on Mathilda Road which is located off Gravois Road in Affton. Federhofer's Bakery is on the corner of Gravois and Mathilda at 9005 Gravois Rd.. Turn onto Mathilda and go about 1/5th of a mile. The park enterance will be on the left.
Comments: There is a public parking area and the sledding hill can be seen from the parking area. You must walk across a small walk-bridge to get to it. There is a small creek at the bottom of the hill, but it flattens out at the bottom, so you usually stop before you get that far. Webmaster's Review: This sledding hill poses some hazards due to a few trees that are at the bottom of the sledding hill (see photo). Before one would get to the trees though, there is a bump in the land that would provide for some airtime, but may cause one to lose control and veer off into one of the trees. Therefore, please BEWARE! Also, as the submitter stated, there is a very small creek at the bottom of the sledding hill which could make for a splash if the water isn't frozen, but you should be able to stop before reaching it. I would call this more of a trickle than a creek though. The slope doesn't look to steep (~30 degrees), but from the top it looks better looking down. Overall, I would rate this sled riding hill due to the hazards and slight slope.

Directions: This sledding hill is in Vlassis Park near the Ballwin Police Station. The police station is at 300 Park Drive in Ballwin. Comments: Ample parking is available right next to the sledding hill. The sledding hill is located right next to the public works salt dome. The hill has a nice, flat run out at the bottom with no obstructions. |
|
Directions: Sledding hill at the corner of Brentwood & Forsyth in
Clayton (Shaw Park land). Comments: Parking around side streets in park. Webmaster's Review: This park is like a 3 sided bowl with a pool on the 4th side. At first, you would think, kind of sounds like Blanchette Park with the bowl theme, but don't be so quick to judge. This park has many trees within it and the grade isn't as steep. One would also have to pay to park along the streets that encompass this park at a rate of .25 cents per half hour. While, from the tracks in the snow, once could tell that this site draws some sledders, I would give this sled riding hill an overall rating of . |

Directions: This sledding hill is in Bluebird Park, off of Keifer Creek Road just south of manchester road in ellisville. Comments: Lots of parking in the park by tennis courts. Great sledding hill with great speed, but there are a few trees in the way, and a creek at the end of the run that you have to watch out for. |

Directions: Sledding hill located in St. Ferdinand Park (Hwy. 67/N. Lindbergh and St. Ferdinand Rd.) Comments: There is a pond at the bottom, but usually when there is enough snow to sled on the pond is frozen, so if you do slide out onto it you can walk back to solid ground. About halfway down the sledding hill is a concrete ledge that usually has a picnic table on it, but in the winter it makes an excellent ramp to get some airtime on your sled. It is to one side so you can either hit it or not. There is a pavilion at the top of the sledding hill, but parking is at the bottom. |
|
Directions: Sledding hill on the Fairview Elementary School property, which is located at 7047 Emma Ave. The sledding hill is near the track. Click here for a satellite location of the sledding hill. You can park along one of the side streets along College Ave. that has a view of the fenced in track hill. There is an opening in the fence with steps down to access the sledding hill. Comments: This sledding hill is where I, the webmaster, used to go sled riding when I lived in Jennings, MO at age 9. This was back in 1979, but from what I can see, this sledding hill area hasn't changed much. From the satellite photo that goes with this posting, it looks as if the sledding hill is still that same one that I remember. This sledding hill is 2 tiered. The top of the it has a fence that encompasses the school track property and runs along College Ave. From the fence, I remember sliding down this steep incline for it to level out for a short bit and then incline down again. I remember the leveled out part had a slight hump in locations which would allow for some air time. Webmaster's Review: Well, arriving at this hill after 25 years brought back some good ol' memories. It hasn't changed. Overall, I would give this sled riding hill . |

Directions: Sledding hills behind Pattonville Heights Middle School, 195 Fee Fee Road, a block north of Dorsett Rd.. Comments: The HEIGHTS have 2 sledding hills. Both end in the flat playing field. One hill is a 2 terraced hill. There is a new parking lot on the Fee Fee Rd. side of the school building; makes for better access to the sledding hill. Webmaster's Review: By looking at the sled tracks in this hill, I can tell it is a locals favorite. Plenty of places to park in the school parking lot, medium 2 tiered slope with a long run out at the bottom and no hazards. Therefore, I give this sled riding hill .

Sometimes a barrel with firewood is provided. Webmaster's Review: Another basic sledding hill with a slight slope. Overall, I would rate this sled riding hill .

Directions: The sledding hill is located at Sioux Passage Park, which is at Old Jamestown and Vaile roads in unincorporated North County. Once in the park, the hill is south of the basketball court and east of the big square parking lot. The sledding hill extends from the trail to the basket ball court down to the parking lot and maybe even further. Comments: Growing up the nickname of the sledding hill was called Man-Maker. This sledding hill had a long huge slope where you probably got going 15 to 20 mph - the thrill was huge! And that walk back up as tiring as it was was worth every ounce of F-U-N! The only real hazards are the trees that surround the parking lot because by time you get to those trees you could still be going 5 to 10 mph and the sudden stop can leave a mark. Sioux Passage is a designated Winter Sports area with snowmobiling, sled riding and cross-country skiing permitted. This is probably one of the best kept snow sledding secrets in St. Louis. Click here for a park locator map and here for a map in .pdf format that will show you where the basketball court is within the park. |
|
Directions: This sled riding hill is in Suson Park, 6073 Wells Rd. It is the first hill on the left hand side. Cant miss it on a snowy day, always sled riders there. Comments: The county sets up hay bales around the trees for protection. Plenty of parking on the road way at the top of the sledding hill. Webmaster's Review: I think that this sled riding hill is lacking in the slope area, eventhough the length is great. Overall, I would rate this sled riding hill . |

Directions: Sledding hill next to Deer Creek Park at the east end of N. Forest Ave. (Take Summit Ave. north, then right on N. Forest Ave.). N. Forest Ave. will dead end at a loop turn around (where people can park) by an open field, the sledding hill in on the right. Comments: Some parking near top of the sledding hill, but most park along street or the nearby Deer Creek Park; N. Forest is not a busy street. The street is very often blocked by cars on snow days. Webmaster's Review: This sledding hill was a great surprise to me when I arrived at it. Eventhough that we didn't have a lot of snow today, the 2-3 inches did the trick, but quickly turned this sled riding hill to brown snow. 4 inches plus would have been perfect, but you can't have it all. The steepness of this sledding hill and the moguls (Bumpy dips) made for a GREAT FAST ride with airtime down this hill. It may be lacking in the length department, but the steep slope makes up for it, and then some. I will DEFINITELY visit this sledding hill again on a heavy snow day. Overall, I would rate this sled riding hill due to the bumps and speed gained. |
