Directions: Designated sled riding hill at Powder Mills Park, off Woolston Road near North Lodge. Look for designated hill stating open. Click here for a map. Comments: There is another sledding hill very near this one called the "Back Bowl" by many who frequent it. It is often extremely hard pack because of snow boarders that use it. So it is very fast, probably close to 100-150 ft high; ~50-55 degree slope; ~150 - 200 ft. long. This is a non-designated sled riding hill by the county, therefore, the directions won't be posted on this site due to legal reasons and multiple hazards. Therefore, it will remain a locals secret. Directions: Sledding hill in Riverside Park off of Riverside Dr in NYC. Comments: Lots of sledders prefer Riverside Park to Pilgrim Hill because it's a lot less crowded and it offers amazing views of the Hudson. If you want to really soak in and … embrace the experience of sledding in middle of the city, Riverside Park is a really good choice. It has many different hills. Directions: Sledding hill called Pilgrim Hill near E. 72nd St. in NYC's Central Park. Comments: Pilgrim Hill makes it into most Manhattanites' lists of best places to sled. The slope here is steep enough to work up a decent … speed, but ends gently enough to not make you pay for it. It's bump and bruise-free ride, but not a very well-kept secret. If it's too crowded at Pilgrim Hill, head over to Cedar Hill, between 76th and 79th Streets. Directions: Sledding hill in Ewen Park. 3099 Riverdale Ave. Comments: Ewen Park is a great place for sledding because it's fast and easy. That is, it's easy to pick up some real speed coming down the slope, but the best part is that every … trip down isn't ruined by the lingering chore of the long trek back up. Stairs make it easy to get back to business. Prepare to bail out as you fly toward the piles of hay that protect sledders from sliding into the street at breakneck speeds. Directions: Sledding hills in Fort Greene Park. Comments: Sledding here is pretty awesome, mainly thanks to the attitudes of other sledders in the community. Kids and adults alike sled down the gentle slopes on anything they can … find on the walk over, although the perennial favorite seems to be a flattened cardboard box inside a garbage bag. Don't have a sled or a "sled"? Parents whose kids have gone off, distracted by other snowy distractions, have always been really generous about letting me take a ride or two while their sled's not in use. Crave a little more speed? The long main staircase, when covered in snow, makes for a steep and speedy option, however people have been injured, so fate says "don't do it!". Fort Green Park is like a mini Central Park and has 4 hills, including one gentler one. Directions: Sledding hills located at Gedney Park on Route 120/133 in Chappaqua, New York. Comments: There are two hills here that are good for sledding. Both are visible and accessible from the parking lot. The closer one is steeper, but slightly shorter and always more crowded. A common issue with this hill is that there are often many sledders stopped in the middle of the hill, making it difficult to go fast without stopping or trying to avoid somebody. On one edge of this hill, there is a somewhat steep drop on one side which is lined with trees. All of these trees have bales of hay at their bases as a means of cushioning should a sledder stray onto this side. At the bottom, there is a pond which has an area of bushes and shrubs between it and the hill, and hay is also present here for safety. In addition, the hill ends close to the parking lot, but it is rare for any sledder to have enough speed to actually end up in the parking lot. Small saplings have been planted at t! he bottom, and also have bales of hay at their bases. This hill is usually used by older kids, and younger ones who aren't afraid to go fast. Beware of people trying to snowboard and people trying to use the bales of hay to make jumps in the middle of the slope. The other hill is longer, slightly less steep towards its bottom, very steep towards its top, contains a wide turn in its middle and is significantly less crowded than the other hill. This hill is often used by younger kids and their parents, and people who just want to avoid the crowd on the other slope. There is a wide open field at the bottom of this slope, so there is virtually no chance of running into the park access road, which is between the field and the parking lot. This is a very well kept park in that the parking lot and access road are well paved, the park is neatly landscaped, there is a large playground area, restrooms are available and the park is designated by the New Castle Recreation and Parks Department as a sledding area. The park is located about one mile from the center of Millwood and about three and a half miles from the center of Chappaqua. Directions: Sledding hill at Bryant Park. Get off the Yorktown Heights 202 exit off the Toconic Parkway. Make a
right going into Yorktown Heights - about a mile or so there is a park
called Bryant Park and a huge ballfield on your right. You can the see
slope right off the field. It's next to Lakeland High School. Comments: This sledding hill is fun. It has a nice progressive downhill and it has an agressive downhill .... one or two man made jumps. It is perfect for all levels of sledders. Parking is directly next to the top of the slope. Sleds into a ballfield.
